ALEKSANDAR DIMITRIJEVIC

About the artist

Aleksandar Dimitrijević (born 1977 in Užice) is a multidisciplinary contemporary Serbian artist and a prominent figure in the regional art scene, primarily working in painting, drawing, and installation. He earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, developing a distinct visual language that explores the archiving of everyday life through cycles such as his renowned Playground series. His artistic practice often focuses on the deconstruction of social games and the visual potential of "ready-made" drawings and artifacts found in daily life, blending abstract gestures with analytical research. Since 2004, Dimitrijević has held over thirty solo exhibitions and participated in more than 150 group shows across Europe and the United States, including major cities like London, Amsterdam, and Rome. As the founder of the Association of Visual Artists of Užice and the innovative Reflektor Gallery, he has made a significant impact on new cultural practices in Serbia, earning prestigious accolades such as the Jelena Šantić Award. His works are part of esteemed public and private collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, the Telenor Collection, and the René Block Collection.
