VELJKO VALJAREVIC

About the artist

Veljko Valjarević (born 1991 in Užice) is a prominent contemporary Serbian painter and a leading figure of the younger generation specializing in fantastic and surrealist figural art. After completing his Master’s degree at the Faculty of Philology and Arts (FILUM) in Kragujevac, where he notably spent two years researching human anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, he continued his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. His artistic style is defined by a "neo-figural" approach that weaves together introspective landscapes with symbolic, mythical, and religious motifs, often rendered in a signature palette of cool blues and greens to evoke a sense of contemplative silence. In 2026, he further expanded his international career through an artistic residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, which culminated in an "Open Studio" exhibition titled La Jeunesse. Since his solo debut in 2017, Valjarević has held over fifteen solo exhibitions and received prestigious accolades, such as the "Perspective" award at the 2021 Biennial of Fantastic Art. Known for his technical mastery and innovative spirit, he recently gained significant attention for his 2024 collaborative project "Who is Who?" with artist Marko Kusmuk, further solidifying his place in both private and public art collections.
